The historical records of the MKUltra mind-control program reveal that at the exact moment SRI was running its parapsychology trials, the intelligence-industrial complex was mastering the human bioelectric code. Through heavily classified initiatives like Subproject 119, military contractors were perfecting invisible, electromagnetic and microwave technologies capable of projecting voices, imagery, and emotional states directly into the human central nervous system.

To safely test, refine, and deploy this invisible electronic panopticon without alerting the public to a weaponized warzone inside their own minds, the “Oh So Social” influential networks within elite circles, pursued & contributed to the institutionalisation of a strategic convergence of interests.

They revived the ancient blueprint of the Eleusinian Mysteries, utilizing elite-funded laboratories and appears to have converged with the New Age movement and Ufology. By framing the output of weaponized neuro-technologies as “cosmic transmissions,” “alien communications,” and “natural psychic gifts,” they may have provided operational cover for classified bioelectric research behind an irresistible, space-age spiritual smoke screen.

I. The Subterranean Channel: Synarchist Roots, the Polaire Brotherhood, Thule Transmission, and the Genesis of “The Nine”

To understand how the corporate-intelligence nexus manufactured a modern space-age religion, one must trace the ideological lineage back to the European Synarchist occult orders of the interwar era - and their parallel Germanic counterpart.

In the 1880s, French occultist Marquis Alexandre Saint-Yves d’Alveydre constructed an ancient mythological foundation for Synarchy, stretching it back to the fabled island of Atlantis and positioning the medieval Knights Templar as its “spiritual fathers.” As historian Richard B. Spence details, Saint-Yves presented Synarchy as the “normal organization of all societies”, a hidden, hierarchical system of joint rule by unelected spiritual, scientific, and financial elites that would supplant chaotic parliamentary democracy.

The subterranean synarchist realm of Agartha (or Agarttha) and its hidden ruler, the “Lord of the World,” form the central subject of René Guénon’s seminal 1927 work Le Roi du Monde (The Lord of the World). According to Guénon, Agartha represents “a spiritual centre existing in the terrestrial world,” housing “an organization charged with the integral preservation of the deposit of sacred tradition that is of ‘non-human’ origin … and through which primordial wisdom is communicated across the ages to those who are able to receive it.” Guénon further identifies the Lord of the World with the mysterious biblical figure known as Melchizedek (Melki-Tsedeq). This blueprint directly inspired the Polaire Brotherhood (Fraternité Polaire), an influential French esoteric society operating in the same high-society circles that later spawned the Vichy regime. The Polaires claimed direct, telepathic contact with a council of “Secret Masters” - alternatively termed “The Three Wise Men” or “The Nine Unknown Men” - who steered human civilization from a hidden sanctuary.

The Polaires used this divine, mediumistic channel to execute a precise political agenda: parliamentary democracy was an obsolete illusion breeding chaos; true liberation required a rigid global hierarchy governed by an absolute spiritual monarch and an inner circle of experts. This exact occult narrative was systematized in the 1930s by Jean Coutrot, leader of the Mouvement Synarchique d’Empire (MSE), itself an outgrowth of the Ordre Martiniste et Synarchique founded by Polaire-linked Victor Blanchard. Coutrot’s network, exposed in the Chavin Report as the synarchist conspirators behind Vichy, maintained close ties to Aldous Huxley, who served as a crucial intellectual bridge to American operations.

A parallel transmission arrived through the Germanic völkisch occult societies. According to defector L. Ron Hubbard Jr. - who legally changed his name to Ronald DeWolf after defecting from the Church of Scientology in 1959 - publicly claimed the foundational esoteric teachings, group-control methodologies, and “black magic” psychology of Scientology were passed directly to his father via secret courier from the remnants of the Thule Society and Germanenorden, the very proto-Nazi occult orders that had shaped early Nazi ideology. On 31 December 1952, Indian mystic Dr. D.G. Vinod channelled “The Nine”, entities mirroring the Polaire oracles ( The Nine Unknown) and later identifying as the ancient Egyptian Ennead. These extra-terrestrial creators delivered a Cold War–tailored message of planetary transition. Over two decades, Puharich rotated Western establishment figures - including the Du Pont & Bronfman dynasties and Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry - through these sessions, institutionalizing the cosmic mythos at the apex of elite culture. The Nine explicitly linked themselves to Alice Bailey’s “Externalization of the Hierarchy” and claimed responsibility for the post-1947 UFO wave.

II. MKUltra Subproject 119: The Bioelectric Code

While the public-facing side of Puharich’s network promoted the spiritual wonders of “The Nine” and parapsychology, the classified side tracked a radically different objective. According to declassified draft memoranda dated 17 August 1960, the CIA initiated MKUltra Subproject 119 with the mandate:

“A critical review of the scientific developments regarding the recording, analysis, and interpretation of bioelectric signals from the human organism, and the activation of human behavior by remote means.”

Subproject 119 funnelled millions into premier institutions, notably the Brain Research Institute at UCLA under Drs. Mary Brazier and W. Ross Adey. They brought to the OSS a distinct corporate worldview rooted in the classic Synarchist paradigm: the belief that national borders, political ideologies, and public parliaments were transient illusions. The true foundation of global order lay in the preservation of the transnational industrial and financial cartels that managed the earth’s resources.

II. The Chavin Report and the Vichy Synarchist Pact

While the American corporate elite were institutionalizing themselves within the OSS, their ideological counterparts in Europe were executing a parallel Synarchist takeover inside the collapsing structure of the French Third Republic.

Following the swift military defeat of France by Nazi forces in 1940, the puppet Vichy France regime was established under Marshal Philippe Pétain. While Pétain served as the public, grandfatherly face of the “National Revolution,” the actual levers of the French economy were instantly seized by a highly organized cabal of right-wing bankers and industrial technocrats—many associated with the powerful Banque Worms and the elite engineering think-tank X-Crise.

In 1941, following a series of mysterious internal assassinations among these elite technocrats, French intelligence official Henri Chavin released a highly classified internal investigation known to historians as the Chavin Report.

The document explicitly outlined the existence of a shadow organization called the Mouvement Synarchique d’Empire (MSE), founded in 1922. The report warned that this secret cabal of bankers had intentionally sabotaged the French military effort to force the destruction of the democratic republic, allowing them to replace it with an authoritarian state run entirely by corporate experts.

Crucially, the Chavin Report documented that this was not a localized French conspiracy, but an international network:

“The activities of the Synarchist movement are funded and directed by international financial interests... including the American du Pont interests and British industrial syndicates, working in concert to replace national political sovereignty with a unified corporate-banking cartel across Europe.”

The behaviour of these corporate elites under Vichy was entirely real. Under the guise of Pétain’s authoritarian state, they outlawed strikes, dissolved trade unions, and formed Comités d’organisation (Organizing Committees) for every industry. These committees stripped smaller businesses of power and concentrated all economic control into the hands of the largest corporations and cartels.

They did not collaborate with Nazi Germany out of fanatical devotion to Adolf Hitler’s racial theories; they collaborated because they viewed the Nazi war machine as the inevitable winner of the war and saw fascism as the ultimate corporate shield to permanently crush left-wing labour movements and secure an elite-led European Empire.

III. Allen Dulles, Operation Sunrise, and the Sabotage of the Morgenthau Plan

This transatlantic web of corporate solidarity became completely visible through the wartime operations of Allen Dulles in Bern. Because Dulles’s pre-war law firm, Sullivan & Cromwell, had represented the very same German chemical and industrial cartels - such as IG Farben and the Schroder Banking Network - that financed Hitler’s rise, Dulles spent the war years working aggressively to ensure these corporate assets survived the fall of the Third Reich.

As the war entered its final phase in 1944, Henry Morgenthau Jr., the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, proposed the Morgenthau Plan for post-war Germany. Morgenthau, a progressive New Dealer, recognized that German heavy industry and banking cartels were the actual engine of Prussian militarism and fascism. His plan mandated:

1. The complete dismantling and destruction of all heavy industry, mines, and manufacturing plants in Germany.

2. The systematic break-up of all interlocking corporate directorates and international monopolies.

3. The forced conversion of Germany into a strictly agricultural and pastoral nation.

To Allen Dulles, his brother John Foster Dulles, and the Mellon-dominated OSS apparatus in London, the Morgenthau Plan was an absolute catastrophe. Major General Smedley Darlington Butler, a man who had twice been awarded the Congressional Medal of Honour, was not there to discuss tactical manoeuvres or foreign battlefields. He was there to expose an act of treason [1].

Under oath, Butler testified that a cabal of Wall Street brokers and corporate titans, representing some of the most powerful industrial dynasties in American history, had approached him with a chilling proposition: lead a private army of 500,000 disgruntled veterans in a march on Washington, depose President Franklin D. Roosevelt, and establish an unelected, corporate-led military dictatorship [1].

The public history books refer to this incident as the “Business Plot,” often treating it as a bizarre, short-lived historical anomaly - the desperate, crude machinations of a few wealthy men panicked by the New Deal.

But when the historical lens is pulled back, the Business Plot ceases to look like an isolated American anomaly. Instead, it reveals itself as the first brute-force operational phase of a sophisticated, century-old European geopolitical philosophy known as Synarchy.

It was a model designed to replace public voting and constitutional law with an optimized, borderless technocracy managed entirely by a closed inner circle of financial, technological, and spiritual experts.

To understand the architecture of the modern deep state, one must trace this blueprint back to its intellectual birthplace: the esoteric salons of 19th-century France and the economic philosophies of the industrial revolution.

I. The Metaphysical Blueprint: Saint-Yves d’Alveydre and the Birth of Synarchy

Instead, the state should be governed by an absolute, enlightened sovereign advised by a strict council of agricultural and industrial technocrats [4].

In his 1767 treatise, Physiocratie, du Pont de Nemours stated explicitly:

“The natural order of society is an absolute hierarchy. To allow the ignorant mass to vote upon the laws of production is to invite the dissolution of the state itself.” [4]

When Pierre Samuel and his sons fled the violence of the French Revolution for the United States in 1800, they did not leave this ideology behind [3]. His son, Éleuthère Irénée du Pont, established a gunpowder mill on the Brandywine River in Delaware in 1802 [3]. Over the next century, E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Company evolved from a localized munitions supplier into a colossal, hyper-centralized chemical and financial monopoly [3].

Throughout this rapid industrial expansion, the DuPont family preserved their patriarch’s foundational Franco-technocratic worldview. They viewed the American continent not as a democratic republic of sovereign citizens, but as a vast, resource-rich industrial estate designed to be engineered and optimized by a select lineage of corporate executives.

III. The Brute-Force Phase: The 1933 Business Plot

By the dawn of the 1930s, this corporate worldview ran headfirst into a catastrophic systemic crisis: the Great Depression. As breadlines stretched across American cities and capitalism faced existential collapse, the newly elected President Franklin D. As Major General Smedley Butler later revealed to the McCormack-Dickstein Committee, he was approached in July 1933 by Gerald P. MacGuire, a wealthy bond salesman working for the prominent Wall Street brokerage firm Grayson M.P. Murphy & Co. [1]. MacGuire, backed by millions of dollars in corporate capital, spent months attempting to recruit Butler to lead a newly formed veterans’ organisation called the American Liberty League [1].

The plan was highly structured. MacGuire and his backers intended to exploit the deep economic grievances of World War I veterans [1]. Butler was to lead a mass paramilitary march on Washington, D.C., under the pretext of protecting the American economy [1]. Once the capital was secured, FDR would be forced to step aside, appointing an unelected “Secretary of General Affairs” - a corporate CEO in all but name - who would wield absolute executive power over the United States [1].

In his public testimony, General Butler recounted a pivotal conversation with MacGuire that laid bare the Synarchist blueprint animating the conspiracy:

“He told me that they wanted a man who could command the veterans, because the veterans were the only ones who could force the government to do what the big business interests wanted... He said, ‘We need a government that runs like a corporation. No more politicians, no more voting on economic laws. We need a strong hand at the wheel.’” [1]

The congressional investigation quickly traced the financial footprints of the conspiracy straight to the highest echelons of corporate America. Grayson M.P. Murphy & Co. was deeply intertwined with the financial networks of J.P. Morgan, and the primary financial engine backing the newly formed American Liberty League was none other than Irénée du Pont and his brothers, Pierre and Lammot [1].

The DuPonts, alongside Alfred P. Sloan of General Motors, poured millions of dollars into the Liberty League, using it to launch an aggressive anti-Roosevelt propaganda campaign and establish the administrative architecture required to manage a post-democratic corporate state [1].

IV. The Failure and the Strategic Pivot

The Business Plot collapsed because the plotters misjudged their primary asset. They believed that Major General Smedley Butler, as a professional military officer, would naturally align with a hierarchical, authoritarian coup. They failed to realize that Butler was an ardent constitutionalist who had grown profoundly cynical of corporate militarism. In his famous 1935 book, War Is a Racket, Butler reflected on his career, writing:

“I spent 33 years and four months in active military service... And during that period, I spent most of my time as a high class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street and the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism.” [5]

When the McCormack-Dickstein Committee issued its final report on 15 February 1935, it delivered a striking validation of Butler’s whistleblowing:

"In the last few weeks of the committee's official life it received evidence showing that certain persons had made an attempt to establish a fascist organization in this country... There is no question that these attempts were discussed, were planned, and might have been placed in execution when and if the financial backers deemed it expedient."

Yet, despite the committee’s findings, not a single Wall Street broker, DuPont executive, or GM baron was ever prosecuted, indicted, or called to testify publicly. The financial elite proved too powerful to be legally dismantled by the state.

However, the exposure of the plot forced a monumental strategic pivot within the Synarchist network. The plutocracy realized that in an open, democratic society, a direct, brute-force military coup was too visible, too vulnerable to exposure, and too easily disrupted by public outrage.

If they were to successfully dismantle democracy and implement Saint-Yves d’Alveydre’s vision of rule by experts, they could not fight the state from the outside. In the American context, elements of this vision surfaced more concretely in 1933 with the so-called Business Plot. According to testimony by highly decorated Marine General Smedley Butler before Congress, prominent industrialists and financiers, including ties to DuPont, J.P. Morgan interests, and General Motors, explored using a veterans’ organization to pressure or remove President Franklin D. Roosevelt in favour of a more business-friendly authoritarian arrangement, or as the New York Times described it, a “Fascist Plot”. The plot was exposed and did not proceed, but it illustrated the willingness of certain corporate circles to bypass democratic norms when their interests felt threatened.

The “Oh So Social” Era and Intelligence

In the decades that followed, America’s Eastern Establishment elites, drawing from families with names like Mellon, Rockefeller, and Morgan, played notable roles in building the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) and its successor, the Central Intelligence Agency. Today, this trajectory appears to be accelerating through a new generation of technology leaders often associated with the Neo-Reactionary (NRx) or Dark Enlightenment currents. Thinkers in this sphere critique democracy as inefficient and prone to capture, advocating instead for corporate-style governance, sovereign enclaves, or “Network States” that prioritize competence hierarchies over mass participation.

Prominent figures such as Peter Thiel (through Palantir’s advanced data analytics and surveillance capabilities) and networks linked to Elon Musk (via Starlink’s global connectivity infrastructure) are actively shaping tools that could underpin new forms of governance. Initiatives like Praxis, which explore charter cities or autonomous zones governed by private agreements, represent experiments in bypassing traditional nation-state constraints. Concurrently, renewed high-profile attention to the UFO/UAP topic in media and policy circles continues to challenge public trust in official institutions, potentially priming acceptance of alternative authority structures led by “hyper-capable” technologists.

This analysis traces a speculative but coherent through-line: from 19th-century occult and political theory, through 20th-century corporate manoeuvring and intelligence innovation, to 21st-century technological feudalism. It is not presented as settled history but as a pattern worthy of scrutiny - one that suggests a multi-generational shift away from traditional democratic accountability toward managed, elite-driven systems.

5. Parapolitics, Cybernetics, and the Strategy of Tension

The deeper continuity from ancient mystery traditions to contemporary power structures is best illuminated through the lens of parapolitics: the study of covert intelligence networks, elite alliances, and unaccountable influence operating beneath the surface of democratic governance.

The Sovereign Military Order of Malta (SMOM) as an Intelligence Nexus

The Sovereign Military Order of Malta constitutes a unique sovereign entity under international law, possessing its own passports and enjoying diplomatic immunity. During the Cold War, these privileges transformed its logistical infrastructure into a privileged channel for the discreet movement of funds, personnel, and directives across national borders, largely insulated from standard state oversight. In the United States, the Shickshinny Knights of Jerusalem, an ultra-traditionalist splinter lineage, functioned as a nexus blending aristocratic chivalric titles with fervent anti-communist military and intelligence networks. Colonel Philip J. Corso, who held significant Pentagon and National Security Council roles before his later disclosures on Roswell, exemplified the type of figure navigating these overlapping domains.

Corso later gained widespread attention through his 1997 book The Day After Roswell, in which he claimed that, while serving as Chief of the Foreign Technology Desk in Army Research and Development, he personally handled debris recovered from the 1947 Roswell crash and oversaw the reverse-engineering of extraterrestrial technology that influenced later civilian innovations such as integrated circuits, fiber optics, and laser systems. NATO’s Operation Gladio established “stay-behind” armies across Western Europe as a safeguard against potential Soviet invasion. In practice, particularly in Italy, elements of these networks became implicated in a “strategy of tension”, a pattern of domestic terrorism and false-flag operations designed to destabilize leftist political movements and reinforce authoritarian-leaning governance.

Notable membership and award overlaps linked SMOM with Gladio structures, Italian military intelligence (SISMI), and Licio Gelli’s clandestine Propaganda Due (P2) lodge: James Jesus Angleton, the CIA’s longtime counterintelligence chief, received the Croce al Merito; Reinhard Gehlen, former Nazi intelligence chief and architect of West Germany’s early stay-behind apparatus, was awarded the Grand Cross of Merit; and Licio Gelli himself held Knight of Malta status. While rigorous academic historiography properly insists upon verifiable archival evidence, esoteric and parapolitical scholarship supplies a valuable heuristic framework for mapping otherwise obscured continuities. As both Jacques Vallée and Philip K. Dick compellingly demonstrated, the demarcation between genuine revelation and engineered geopolitical ruse is often intentionally ambiguous. In our contemporary era of synthetic consciousness, algorithmic information warfare, and advanced techniques of perceptual management, the disciplined recovery of analytical discernment may constitute the most critical realization of the symbolic “key” long feared lost.

The date, April 24, falls on St. Mark’s Eve, traditionally associated with the thinning of veils between worlds, and carries esoteric links to legends of Ormus, the Egyptian priest said in Rosicrucian lore to have syncretized the mysteries of Isis with early Christianity to found what would become Rosicrucianism.

This interpretation finds an earlier echo in French ufological literature. In his 2001 book ‘Les Engins de l’Espace et Ceux Qui l’Occupent’ (“Space Engines and Those Who Occupy Them”), author Guy-Claude Mouny explicitly connects the Socorro case to the same esoteric symbolism, which he identifies as the emblem of FUDOSI, founded in 1934 under the influence of AMORC and dissolved in 1951. While Mouny presents the observation cautiously and without firm judgment, he includes it among potentially relevant data points in his broader analysis of the UFO phenomenon.

This is not idle pattern-seeking. Both key scientific investigators of the Socorro case had documented personal interest in Rosicrucian traditions. J. Allen Hynek, the astronomer who served as Project Blue Book’s scientific consultant, was well-versed in esoteric thought; occult writer and druid, John Michael Greer, has suggested he may have been an initiate of the Rosicrucian Fellowship founded by Max Heindel.

Jacques Vallée himself engaged directly with the Rosicrucian Order AMORC in his youth, receiving monthly correspondence course materials and rituals as a complement to his scientific training, as he recorded in his journals.

“Some months ago I sent an application to the Rosicrucian Order, whose French branch has its headquarters in Villeneuve-Saint-Georges. Now I find their documents to be an interesting spiritual complement to my scientific training...”

It invites us into a deeper current running through modern UFO history: the persistent intersection of genuine anomalous phenomena with long-standing networks of initiatory orders, teachings from “hidden masters,” and visions of profound societal transformation.

Messengers of Deception

Jacques Vallée, the French-American computer scientist, astronomer, and ufologist (immortalized as Claude Lacombe in Close Encounters of the Third Kind), explored this terrain with rare rigor in his 1979 book ‘Messengers of Deception’. Vallée did not dismiss the UFO phenomenon outright. He maintained that a real, often physical component exists - what he later described as a “control system” that interacts with human consciousness across centuries, manifesting in forms resonant with the cultural expectations of each era (fairies in medieval times, airships in the 1890s, flying saucers in the 20th century).

A central narrative device in the book is Major Murphy, a retired U.S. intelligence officer who serves as Vallée’s provocative interlocutor. Murphy repeatedly steers the conversation toward the possibility of deliberate human manipulation: psychological operations, staged contactee experiences, and the use of occult groups as vehicles for social conditioning. He draws parallels to wartime propaganda, mind-control research, and the harnessing of belief systems for political ends. Through these dialogues, Murphy urges a shift in focus—from asking “Where are they from?” to “What is the phenomenon doing to us?”

Yet Vallée himself later clarified the literary nature of this character. In the preface to the December 1980 edition of Messengers of Deception, he writes:

“In order to defend their belief in UFOs as friendly visitors from outer space, some reviewers have suggested that I had been ‘manipulated’ myself by the mysterious Major Murphy who plays an important role in this book. In response to this clever criticism, it is perhaps time to reveal that there is no Major Murphy. I invented him because I felt there was a need to bring out a controversial and novel perspective on the entire problem of UFOs.”

Vallée used the composite figure to synthesize insights drawn from multiple real individuals he had interviewed during his research. This admission underscores both the book’s deliberate structure and its underlying seriousness: the ideas Murphy voices reflect perspectives Vallée encountered in intelligence and occult circles.

Vallée insisted on distinguishing between the phenomenon itself and the deception layered around it. The former involves unexplained events with physical traces and high-strangeness effects. The latter consists of human (and possibly non-human) exploitation: staged or amplified encounters, contactee cults, and symbolic narratives that steer beliefs toward specific social, political, or spiritual ends.

The Order of Melchizadek

The Murphy construct repeatedly urged Vallée to pay close attention to certain obscure occult and contactee groups, viewing them as potential windows into the manipulation he suspected was underway. Among those he specifically flagged as worth serious follow-up were the various branches of the Order of Melchizedek - small, UFO-oriented organizations blending Biblical priest-king imagery with channelled messages and initiatory practices. Murphy saw these groups not as harmless fringe cults, but as ideal covers or testing grounds for those seeking to influence belief systems and social behavior through esoteric channels. Vallée took the advice seriously.

While researching the Melchizedek orders in Los Angeles in early 1976, he experienced one of the most striking synchronicities of his career: a taxi driver, the only “Melchizedek” listed in the city phone book, signed his receipt with that exact name, just as he was compiling notes on these very groups. The incident reinforced Vallée’s growing sense that the phenomenon operates through associative, informational patterns rather than simple linear causality.

That Vallée chose to place such repeated emphasis on the Order of Melchizedek through the voice of Major Murphy is particularly telling. Because Murphy was not a real person but a literary construct - a composite mouthpiece Vallée invented to articulate ideas he considered important yet potentially controversial - the Major’s insistent recommendation to investigate these groups carries special weight. It allowed Vallée to dramatize an internal debate: the scientist who demanded rigorous evidence versus the researcher who was increasingly convinced that certain esoteric and contactee organizations were functioning as vehicles for social conditioning and belief manipulation.

By having Murphy single out the Melchizedek orders, Vallée was effectively highlighting what he saw as a key node in the “deception layer” - small but strategically positioned groups that blended ancient priest-king archetypes with modern UFO contactee lore. The famous 1976 Los Angeles taxi-driver synchronicity, which occurred while Vallée was actively following Murphy’s advice, only reinforced his sense that these networks deserved close attention.

Raymond Bernard and Maha

A central real-world case in the book concerns Raymond Bernard, a high-ranking AMORC official and founder of the Renewed Order of the Temple (ORT). In 1967, Bernard described meetings with a mysterious figure called “Maha,” who conveyed messages about an impending “new cycle.” Vallée recounts:

“Mankind is now at the ‘right level,’ and that the ‘new cycle’ will see competition on a global scale. However, this new cycle is off to a bad start... In the coming cycle, the scale of values will be reversed, leading to a new understanding of social good, the abolition of borders, and the death of nationalism.”

Maha spoke of the role esoteric groups like AMORC could play in propaganda and public indoctrination, operating under guidance from hidden councils on a planetary scale. Vallée presents this not as mere eccentricity but as representative of how initiatory structures can become vehicles for broader cultural conditioning. In Forbidden Science 4: The Spring Hill Chronicles, Vallee eventually exposes the Maha events as those of fiction:

The mistake of occult groups isn’t to affirm knowledge but to institutionalize it. They try to use it operationally on the wrong level.
In a recent interview Rosicrucian imperator Raymond Bernard finally confessed his extra-terrestrial contacts (similar to the rumours that inspired the murder-suicides of the Solar Temple) were fictional. His experiences with an Unknown Superior called Maha, as I had suggested in Messengers of Deception were imaginary as well: proof that again the spiritual principles should not be exploited on the mundane level.
(Note: At the time the AMORC Rosicrucian Order had threatened me with legal action. Believers have continued to spread the Maha story.)

From AMORC to the Solar Temple

Bernard’s ORT arose in 1970 from AMORC circles and the post-1952 “Arginy Renaissance,” sparked by Jacques Breyer’s claimed mystical Templar initiations. It fused Rosicrucian teachings with neo-Templar chivalry and apocalyptic expectations. A leadership schism after Julien Origas’s death led Luc Jouret and Joseph Di Mambro to establish the Order of the Solar Temple (OTS).

The OTS emphasized Ascended Masters, Sirius as a destination for enlightened souls, and a ritual “transit” from the physical plane amid coming earthly cataclysms. Its tragic conclusion - coordinated murder-suicides in Switzerland, France, and Canada (1994–1997), claiming around 74 lives - illustrates how belief systems built on these currents can turn destructive. The core phenomenon may be autonomous and real; the human interpretations constructed atop it can become totalizing and perilous.

Synarchy, Agartha, and Visions of Hidden Governance

These developments drew nourishment from 19th-century French occultism, especially the Martinist tradition (revived by Papus/Gérard Encausse) and the political-esoteric doctrine of Synarchy formulated by Joseph Alexandre Saint-Yves d’Alveydre (1842–1909). Synarchy proposed a harmonious society governed by coordinated spiritual, political, and economic elites - neither anarchic disorder nor crude democracy.

Saint-Yves located the exemplar of this order in Agartha (Agarttha), a vast subterranean kingdom of enlightened initiates preserving primordial wisdom. In ‘Mission de l’Inde en Europe’ (written 1886, published posthumously), he asserted:

“In Asia alone there are a half a billion people who are more or less aware of its existence and its greatness—not to mention America, whose subterranean regions belonged to Agarttha in very remote antiquity.”

Agartha merged with Theosophical ideas of the Great White Brotherhood, Shambhala legends, and later UFO contactee lore. It supplied the archetypal “hidden masters” invoked by Maha, the Solar Temple, and the various Order of Melchizedek groups that Vallée examined.

Operative Rituals and the Archetype of the Priest-King

At the root of the Martinist and Rosicrucian currents we have been tracing lies an older, more intense tradition of operative ritual magic: the attempt not merely to contemplate hidden truths, but to actively invoke and interact with higher intelligences. The Order of the Élus Coëns (Elect Priests), founded in the 1760s by Martinez de Pasqually, represents one of the most sophisticated examples. Its rituals, preserved in manuscripts such as the ‘Green Book’ (Manuscrit d’Alger), were highly disciplined theurgical operations aimed at “Reintegration”, the restoration of fallen humanity to divine unity through ceremonial contact with angelic hierarchies.

Practitioners observed strict periods of fasting, purity, and preparation before performing complex circle constructions filled with divine names, pantacles, and geometric seals. Invocations blended Catholic liturgy, Kabbalistic formulas, and Hermetic elements, seeking visible or audible “passes” (signs of angelic presence) as confirmation of successful spiritual work.

These were not symbolic exercises. They were framed as real spiritual combat and mediation between the earthly and celestial realms - a technology of contact with “higher masters.”

Closely related is the Order of Melchizedek, an archetypal rather than institutional priesthood drawn from Genesis and the Epistle to the Hebrews. In esoteric interpretation, Melchizedek embodies the eternal priest-king who operates outside ordinary religious hierarchies. Modern 20th-century groups claiming this mantle (the very ones Jacques Vallée investigated in the 1970s) often blended Biblical imagery with New Age channelling, UFO contact, and initiatory meditations. Rituals typically involved group invocations, visualizations of subterranean or celestial temples, and reception of “transmissions” from Melchizedek or ascended beings.

These ritual currents fed directly into later groups. The Order of the Solar Temple inherited the initiatory structure, chivalric symbolism, and apocalyptic orientation of this lineage, transforming Coën-style theurgy into elaborate ceremonial “transits” complete with robes, sacred music, and ritual positioning. The underlying pattern - graded initiation, hidden guidance, and preparation for a coming transformation - remains consistent.

Even the Socorro case of 1964 can be read through this lens. The egg-shaped craft and its red emblem (potentially echoing FUDOSI/AMORC symbolism) carry resonances of alchemical rebirth and initiatory revelation. An encounter with structured craft, mysterious figures, and a precise symbolic mark has the theatrical quality of a forced mystery-school initiation, precisely the kind of event Vallée saw as characteristic of the control system.

This deeper ritual layer helps explain why Vallée remained cautious: the phenomenon may be real, but it is continually dressed in the symbolic language of Western esotericism: a language of circles, priesthoods, hidden masters, and transformative encounters that has been refined over centuries.

Implications: Phenomenon, Deception, and Cultural Steering

Vallée’s framework remains powerful because it sidesteps both literalist extra-terrestrial explanations and reductive debunking. The phenomenon appears to possess its own autonomy, adaptive, theatrical, and linked to consciousness. The deception layer is where human actors (intelligence communities, occult organizers, sincere believers) and perhaps the control system’s inherent trickster qualities overlap. Recurring symbols, messages of borderless global cycles, and elite guidance structures appear with notable consistency across decades.

This does not imply a monolithic conspiracy. These are diffuse currents, often fragmented and contradictory, persisting today in diluted New Age forms, neo-Templar remnants, and segments of contemporary UAP discourse. Yet they demonstrate how anomalous experiences can be woven into mythic frameworks that reshape worldviews, undermine established institutions, and cultivate receptivity to new forms of authority.

As Vallée observed (through the voice of his composite Major Murphy and his own analysis):

“Human beings are under the control of a strange force that bends them in absurd ways, forcing them to play a role in a bizarre game of deception.”

The Socorro symbol may be coincidence, a misremembered detail, or something more intentional, an initiatory signature or a marker left by the messengers. Regardless, the broader pattern calls for careful, open-minded investigation rather than uncritical acceptance or outright rejection. In our current era of renewed official interest in UAP and “non-human intelligence,” attention to these historical and esoteric undercurrents is not fringe indulgence. It is necessary context for discerning what may unfold next.

For decades, mainstream scholars dismissed Illion as a standard “travel-hoaxer,” an armchair explorer who plagiarised the works of Alexandra David-Néel to cash in on the 1930s Western obsession with Tibet.

However, when we strip away the exotic framing and decode the dense web of linguistic puns, topographical mirrors, and historical contexts, a far more compelling interpretive lens emerges. One bold hermeneutic reading suggests that “Theodore Illion” was a pseudonym for a brilliant, dissident Germanic intellectual who weaponised Western esotericism to publish a devastating, covert psychological diagnostic tool aimed directly at the völkisch, Armanen-inspired occult movements swallowing his homeland.

The Linguistic Blueprint: The Prince and the Single Heir

The clues to Illion’s true intent begin with his choice of names. His primary pseudonym, Illion, relies on a direct heraldic play on words: it contains the word “Lion,” the definitive symbol of the Plantagenet kings (most famously Richard the Lionheart). By constructing a fictitious lineage tying himself to the House of Anjou, a line rich in esoteric alternative lore (see Priory of Sion and alternative Templar traditions), he granted his literary persona instant aristocratic and occult authority, depending on how one views it.

When the writer re-emerged after World War II to publish supposedly serious academic texts on Eastern medicine, he abandoned the royal-prince persona and adopted a new name: Dr. Theodor Burang. While Burang is a real geographical border county in south-western Tibet, near Mount Kailash, the literal Tibetan translation of the word is “single hair.” To a Westerner fluent in English and German, this serves as a spectacular, multilingual esoteric homophone for “Single Heir.”

Through these linguistic winks, the author signalled to an inner circle of initiates that he remained the sole, solitary custodian of a specific Western spiritual tradition, operating entirely incognito.

Inverting the Holy Grail: From Parzival to the Subterranean Lodge

The architectural backbone of Darkness over Tibet is not Eastern Buddhist lore, but a precise, dark inversion of Wolfram von Eschenbach’s 13th-century Grail epic, Parzival.

In Parzival, the Holy Grail is portrayed as a cosmic stone fallen from the heavens, the Lapis Exilis, which provides supernatural, infinite nourishment to the knights (Templeisen) guarding the hidden mountain castle of Munsalvaesche. The lineage of this Grail castle ultimately extends into Asia via Parzival’s half-brother, Feirefiz of Anjou (Plantagenet lineage derives from the Counts of Anjou), whose son establishes the utopian Eastern kingdom of Prester John.

Illion took this exact physical and mythological layout and turned it completely inside out.

As Carl Jung wrote, “No tree, it is said, can grow to heaven unless its roots reach down to hell.”

The Infiltration of the Armanen: High-Jacking the Grail

To fully understand why Illion constructed this specific anti-myth, one must look at the dark spiritual movement threatening Germany and Austria in the early 20th century. This was the era of Ariosophy, championed by, amongst others, Austrian occultist Guido von List.

The Armanenschaft and the Runes:

Guido von List claimed to have unlocked the secrets of the ancient Germanic priest-kings, the Armanen. He asserted that the Holy Grail was not a Christian relic, but an ancient, pagan German symbol of racial purity and cosmic power hidden within the Armanen rune systems.

The Grail-Linked Offshoots:

Offshoots of List’s philosophy, such as the Guido-von-List-Gesellschaft and the notorious Thule Society, systematically appropriated von Eschenbach’s Parzival mythos. They taught that the Templeisen were actually a prehistoric, racially pure “Aryan” elite tasked with keeping their blood uncorrupted by lower classes.

The Subverted Warning:

Illion’s depiction of the underground city invites a reading as a direct, heretical broadside to these Armanen offshoots. By stepping into this subterranean web and consciously breaking the spell, Theodore Illion explicitly plays the role of Parzival entering the Chapel Perilous.

In the broader Arthurian Grail tradition, the Chapel Perilous represents the ultimate psychological and supernatural crucible. The René Guénon Connection: The Anatomy of Counter-Initiation

The architectural deceptions of Illion’s underground city align strikingly with the concept of “Counter-Initiation,” a cornerstone metaphysical theory developed by the French Traditionalist philosopher René Guénon (fully explored in his 1945 work, The Reign of Quantity and the Signs of the Times).
